NEUTHOX

NEUTHOX is a powerful biocide that renders pathogens inactive. Once added to water piping systems, NEUTHOX kills disease and removes bacteria.

Economical

Cost-effective product and equipment.

Environmentally Friendly

NEUTHOX is manufactured without using toxic or hazardous chemicals.

Effective

Removes biofilm and bacteria permanently from the entire piping system.

Easy Application

Operates on a single dose system.

What is NEUTHOX?

NEUTHOX is a powerful biocide that renders pathogens inactive, but it’s non-toxic and non-irritating. Produced in the DCW unit using only simple, easily sourced salt, water, and electricity, the biocide is used to tackle Legionella, a bacterial disease that can develop in all water piping systems (if they’re not correctly maintained) and transfers to humans through inhalation of waterborne vapours during showering, humidification, or flushing systems.

NEUTHOX doesn’t just kill the Legionella disease, it also removes biofilm from existing piping systems over a period of time and thus destroys the breeding ground of Legionella to prevent future re-occurrence.

Why NEUTHOX?

One of the most common ways to sanitise piping and attempt to kill Legionella is to flush the infected piping system with 70-degree hot water, a process known as ‘scalding’. This process is ineffective, difficult to carry out, and often has detrimental effects on the plumbing system itself. Scalding doesn’t destroy biofilm (the breeding ground for Legionella), and as such the disease will prevail. This is not the case with NEUTHOX, which effectively eliminates the growth of Legionella and biofilm in the piping system without negative side effects.

Benefits of NEUTHOX

  • Ensures clean and bacteria-free water
  • Safe and easy to store and use
  • Helps property owners fulfil legal requirements to provide bacteria-free water
  • Low hazard classification so does not require PPE for handling
  • Produces no toxic residue and is non-corrosive
  • Approved by the Drinking Water Inspectorate and cited in HSG274 Part 2
  • Complies with ECHA regulations
  • Permenantly removes biofilm from the entire piping system (not just a one-time fix)
  • NEUTHOX has been shown to be up to 50 times more effective than bleach
  • Acts quickly to inactivate microorganisms, scale, and biofilm
  • Broad in-use compatibility
  • An automated process with little maintenance required

NEUTHOX Dosing Guide

It is recommended that NEUTHOX is dosed proportionally to the flow, but can also be done based on a selected ORP value. If there is a lot of biofilm inside the piping, experience has shown that a dosing rate of 1 – 1.5 ppm will ensure fast and effective removal of Legionella and biofilm. After biofilm is removed, a dosing rate of 0.3 – 0.5 ppm will be sufficient.

How NEUTHOX Works

The disinfectant NEUTHOX is produced by electrolysis of saltwater by means of patented membrane technology. This safe, low-cost, and environmentally friendly disinfectant can be applied in many different areas.

The efficacy of NEUTHOX is well-documented and current research shows that microorganisms are presently not able to build up resistance to it. It is also sporicidal, meaning it eliminates bacterial spores and biofilm. Primarily composed of hypochlorous acid (HOCl), NEUTHOX kills bacteria with a highly effective two-pronged attack:

  • Attack and Invade – A key property that makes HOCl lethal to microbes is its neutral electrical charge. Legionella and Pseudomonas bacteria, for example, are gram-negative, meaning they have an impenetrable cell wall with a net negative charge that repels other negatively charged particles in the water. HOCl however, being neither positively nor negatively charged, can make contact with and invade bacterial cells.
  • Destroy – HOCl is a strong oxidiser with a very high ‘redox potential’. An oxidising agent has the ability to oxidise other substances, which causes them to lose electrons and die. This means that when the neutral hypochlorous acid breaches the cell walls, it interacts chemically with the cell’s proteins, damaging the links that form the cell’s DNA.

In short, NEUTHOX damages the bacterial cell wall, allowing infiltration by water and acidic fluid that flood the cell until it literally bursts. NEUTHOX also produces a residual that continues to remain active based on bacterial demand.
